Personalized Lesson Plans That Start On Your Level

I think my alpaca friend here would agree that I take a fun, interactive, clear and customized approach to teaching Spanish! But how does it all begin? First, you will take an informal language assessment so we can determine a starting point.  Next, we discuss your interests and hobbies so I can customize your vocabulary and grammar. Remember, the goal is to have meaningful conversations in Spanish.   In other words, “The chair is red.” probably won’t get you very far on your next trip to Mexico.  Finally, we talk about your language goals: level of fluency, skill-focus (reading, writing, listening, speaking) and purpose (work, vacatoin, school, just for fun?)  Oh and one more thing, you should know.  I am willing to help you find ways to study around a busy schedule. Whatever your lifestyle, I am here to support your Spanish studies in any way I can that works best for you!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is your teaching philosophy?

I focus on a balance between fluidity and accuracy. I will teach you grammar and vocabulary that is conversational and that relates to your life. You will read, write listen and yes, speak in Spanish almost immediately after our first lesson!

What should I look for in a Spanish tutor?

Make sure your tutor can provide resources for you to practice between sessions. They should be knowledgeable in teaching Spanish. Just because someone is fluent in Spanish, does not always mean that they know how to teach Spanish. If you are planning on visiting a specific Spanish-speaking country, make sure that they know something about the Spanish that is spoken there. There are variations to the language depending on the country.

Do you give any sort of discounts?

I give discounts for my 5 week intensive class. The more people you add to the group class, the less you will each pay. I limit the class to six, however.

To which Spanish speaking countries have you traveled?

I have traveled to Spain, Mexico, Costa Rica, Peru and Chile. They are all wonderful in their own unique way and I would love to share my experience about their food, culture and people if you are interested.

How soon can I expect to be fluent?

This is a difficult question to answer in a word. Fluency rides on a spectrum. One can always be more fluent. It also depends on how much time you have to spend on practice and study. I make sure to discuss all of this with you so that you have clear expectations about how much time it will take to reach a particular level of fluency before you decide to make a committment.

Do I need to buy a Spanish workbook to study with?

I provide fun structured and unstructured activities so you can practice extensively between each of our sessions. I also make sure you get practice with all skills: reading, writing, speaking and listening. In addition, you will have unlimited email access to ask as many questions as you like between sessions.  Of course, it doesn’t hurt to have a practice workbook for grammar and vocabulary drills. I am happy to recommend a couple, if you like.
